How to find out which process is listening upon a port

Posted on: October 10, 2007

apt-get install lsof
lsof -i :portnumber
To see all the ports open for listening upon the current host you can use another command netstat (contained in the net-tools package):
netstat -a |grep LISTEN |grep -v unix
or
apt-get install nmap
nmap -v locahost
